 Luminosity Introduction:

Luminosity Gaming, a professional esports organization headquartered in North America, fields teams across various gaming titles including Call of Duty, Overwatch, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege, Super Smash Bros., Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Rocket League. The team, originally established in Canada by Steve "Buyaka" Maida in 2015, is now based in Toronto, Ontario.

In October 8, 2016, Luminosity Gaming signed their first representative for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U, which was the Japanese Mewtwo player Abadango. Shortly thereafter, they also signed their first Super Smash Bros. Melee player, the European Fox main Ice. However, both of these players left the team shortly before the beginning of 2018, marking the end of their involvement in the Smash Division. This hiatus lasted until February 2021 when they signed the Melee player Ginger. Subsequently, on October 9, 2022, Luminosity Gaming announced the acquisition of Maister as their first Super Smash Bros. Ultimate player, followed by the signings of Tweek and MkLeo on March 23, 2023.

Gameplay:

On April 30, 2015, Luminosity Gaming added Peter "ptr" Gurney to their roster as an AWPer. However, on July 29, the organization dropped their existing roster and acquired a team based in Brazil, which included players such as Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo, Fernando "fer" Alvarenga, Lucas "steel" Lopes, Ricardo "boltz" Prass, and Marcelo "coldzera" David. In November 2015, Luminosity achieved the quarterfinals in DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015 and went on to win MLG Columbus 2016 on April 3, 2016. They continued their success by securing victory in DreamHack Austin and the ESL Pro League Season 3 Finals in May 2016. However, by June 24, 2016, the Brazilian roster officially transitioned to SK Gaming. Their final event under Luminosity was the Esports Championship Series Season 1 Finals, where they finished as runners-up, losing to G2 Esports.

Luminosity Gaming expanded further by signing the Brazilian team WinOut on July 30, 2016. The team initially included Renato "nak" Nakano and Bruno "bit" Lima but made changes by removing them on September 8, 2016, while adding Gustavo "SHOOWTiME" Gonçalves and Bruno "shz" Martinelli on September 11.

In June 22, 2019, Luminosity entered the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege scene with a team comprising Coal "Doodle" Phillips, Kian "Hyena" Moyazani, Richie "Rexen" Coronado, Tom "Tomas" Kaka, and Muteeb "PiXeL" Chaudary. They quickly established themselves as a top team in the North American Pro League, although they failed to qualify for the Six Major Raleigh after placing third in the online qualifier. A setback occurred at Dreamhack Montreal 2019 when Luminosity was eliminated in the group stage. Subsequently, PiXeL left the team and was replaced by Abdullah "Factor" Rihan, a former player from Rise Nation. Luminosity finished fourth in North American Pro League Season 10, narrowly missing out on the Season 10 finals but avoiding relegation.

Final Words:

On April 14, 2020, Hyena issued a statement highlighting conflicts between the team, Luminosity, and the game's developer, Ubisoft, citing mismanagement and miscommunication. This resulted in the team's removal from the Pro League, which was confirmed by Ubisoft a day later. On April 17, Luminosity released Hyena and the entire team, with Hyena subsequently retiring from Rainbow Six Siege.
